Health & Fitness for Busy People
Most people want to be healthy but with our fast-paced environment, we don’t just have the luxury of time to make it happen. The truth is, it does not have to take that long, nor do you need to make big changes in order to live a healthier life. We got tips to help you on how you can be in tip-top shape even if you are busy.
1. Ditch your bad habits
Make a list of the habits that you know are harmful to your health. If you smoke or drink, try avoiding or limiting these activities. If cutting these out cold turkey is too daunting, try to slowly reduce your intake overtime. Life is all about balance and the first step is always the hardest. However, it is not just smoking and drinking that are bad for your health. Eating too many processed, unhealthy foods can be detrimental as well. Try substituting fruit as your post-dinner treat instead of candy, or opting for veggies and dip instead of chips.
2. Make a list
If you want to be fit and healthy, make sure that you make it a priority. One of our favorite things to do is to make a list. List all the things that you commonly do in a day. It could be working for 8 hours, running a mile, watching a television show, and so on. Once you’ve created a list, number the activity in terms of how much you prioritize it, starting from one, working your way to the last. Then try to fit in at least one of your top 3 priorities per day, even if it’s just for 15 minutes. Since one of your top priorities is to be healthy and fit, make sure to allot at least 30 minutes for a simple routine every day. Remember that if you prioritize your health, it will be easier to become productive and efficient with your daily tasks.
3. Learn quick recipes
Being hungry is a big no when you are trying to stay healthy. Research shows that if you order food or grocery shop while you are hungry, there is a greater chance that you will increase your calorie intake and make less healthy decisions. One thing you can do to make sure that you stick with your diet is to prepare your own meals. You can easily calculate your calorie intake, plus, it’s cheaper than ordering out. However, there are days that you feel tired, especially if you had a long day at work, and making a meal is just tiresome. To make sure that on these days you won’t feel the urge to grab unhealthy convenience food, learn easy-to-make recipes. Roasted chickpeas mixed with zucchini carrots and herbs can be made in less than 10 minutes and can be made with staple pantry items.
4. Finds ways to exercise
If you really cannot fit a structured workout routine into your schedule, find ways to do short exercise throughout the day. For example, you can stand instead of just sitting. You can take the stairs going up or down the floor instead of taking an elevator. And if you are watching your favorite series, you can do push-ups, sit-ups, or even squats during the commercial break.
5. Check your social circle
It is easy to have a healthy lifestyle if your friends and family have the same goals as you. If your goal is to stay healthy and fit, be with people who want to do the same. Having friends who keep on unhealthy habits like smoking or drinking will make you more inclined to do it as well.
6. Relax
The stress that you deal with every day in your social life, personal life, and professional life has a big impact on your health and it can lead to unhealthy habits like drinking, smoking, overeating, and so on. One of the best things to stay healthy is to learn how to relax. You can do yoga, meditation, or even just take a hot bath. But if you don’t have time or energy to do any of these, watching funny videos for 2-5 minutes can help you relax and reduce the stress level in your body.
Being busy is not an excuse to not stay healthy and fit. There are ways to incorporate a workout into your day - it does not require a lot of time. Changing your mindset and knowing your priorities alone can motivate you to have a healthy lifestyle.
